Frequently Asked Questions
How does the ShurSEAL program work? How much does it cost?
We offer a solutions-oriented program that is based on an agreement for tape purchase. This program is designed to address your issues with packaging line downtime and unsecure seals – balancing your retrofit needs with your tape consumption.
Contact us to schedule an evaluation of your case sealing situation – our team will identify potential issues and solutions, demonstrate how we can deliver secure seals, as well as review potential cost savings that could be achieved by switching to ShurSEAL.
Why was ShurSEAL developed?
The right combination of packaging tape and application method can deliver quality, secure seals, as well as maximize packaging line efficiencies to keep them running longer and faster. Leveraging decades of packaging experience, we took a holistic approach to solving common case sealing issues. We started by observing the issues and listening to the industry’s packaging pain points.
Then we took a look at packaging tape – seeking opportunities to fit the industry’s needs by designing specialty tapes (cold temperature application, recycled content) and improving tape characteristics to result in more efficient consumption of the tape.
Then we sought opportunities to enhance the application of these tapes and forged a strategic partnership with PrimeLoc Packaging, Inc. – pairing their tape applicator technology with our improved tape formulations.
The result is ShurSEAL.
What different tapes can be used?
For most sealing situations, our HP Series packaging tape is recommended because it creates an instant, permanent bond with cartons and offers the highest holding power to fiberboard in the industry. For those sealing applications that require a specialized tape, such as cold temperature environments or recycled cartons, we offer a wide array of packaging tape options.

How long do the lines have to be down for installs?
ShurSEAL Packaging Solutions easily retrofit into more than 300 automated machines, including most major brands of case erectors and case sealers. In many cases, install time is short (often 20 minutes or less), but every packaging line is different. Contact us to schedule an evaluation of your case sealing situation so we can find the right solution for you.
How can ShurSEAL improve the efficiency of my packaging operations?
Selecting the right combination of packaging tape and application method can address sealing issues, while also maximizing efficiencies on packaging lines to keep them running longer and faster.
For more efficient tape consumption, our HP Series packaging tape performs reliably to the core, meaning less tape is wasted. Additionally, offering an aggressive adhesive and consistent unwind off the roll, HP Series packaging tape generates a secure seal with less breakage during the case sealing process.
PrimeLoc tape applicators also offer several advantages to keep packaging lines running efficiently. They are the fastest in the industry to increase throughput, and, with unmatched wipe-down force that allows for full utilization of the tape’s adhesive, reduce reworks by eliminating the need to retape or double seal a box to keep it closed.
Finally, our ShurSEAL program reduces maintenance costs by providing spare parts at no additional cost to you*.

What is the benefit of folding the tape’s edge along the length of the box?
Knife cuts can be costly, both to your product and to those handling it. Our patented Folded-Edge Technology folds the edge of tape along the length of the carton to create a secure, easy-to-open seal that doesn’t require a knife. Instead, it creates a dry edge to grasp the tape and remove it by hand.
Another advantage of folding the tape edge is increased strength of the tape at its most vulnerable failure point, where the tape folds over the edge of the carton. This adds an extra layer of security to keep carton contents secure from damage, contamination and theft.
What makes PrimeLoc tape heads different?
Most tape heads wipe down tape with two rollers, often positioned at the front and rear of the unit. In many cases, this is not sufficient, especially if you’re sealing under-filled cartons. PrimeLoc tape heads offer multiple, flexible wipe-down points, allowing for full utilization of the tape’s adhesive, even on under-filled cartons.
Additionally, PrimeLoc tape heads are also available with patented Folded-Edge Technology, a feature that folds the edges of the tape along the carton to create a secure, easy-to-open seal that doesn’t require a knife to open. Folding the edge also adds a layer of security to keep carton seals secure from your facility to their final destination.

Why is wipe-down force so important?
Most packaging tapes are pressure sensitive, so they require some type of wipe-down pressure or force to create a bond to the carton. Without sufficient wipe-down pressure, the tape’s adhesive won’t adhere to the fibers of the carton, leading to unsecure seals that leave product exposed to damage, contamination and theft.
We have spent a great deal of time testing and refining ShurSEAL Packaging Solutions to address concerns over weak seals, particularly on under-filled cartons: HP Series packaging tape is uniquely engineered to create an instant bond to cartons and PrimeLoc tape heads are designed with multiple, flexible wipe-down mechanisms, which allow for full utilization of a tape’s adhesive.
Will ShurSEAL help with recycled cartons?
Some sealing applications require a specialized tape, including recycled cartons. As the recycled content in corrugated containers increases, smaller fibers and more fillers are used, which can make it difficult for packaging tape to stick. We designed our HP 235 packaging tape with an enhanced adhesive engineered specifically for sealing highly recycled corrugated containers, particularly 100 percent recycled.
When combined with the unmatched wipe-down force offered by the PrimeLoc tape applicators, which allows for full utilization of the tape’s adhesive, HP 235 delivers highly secure seals with increased fiber tear when the tape is removed, offering tamper-evident security.
What is an SSCI Evaluation?
An SSCI (Single Shift Continuous Improvement) Evaluation is a process that generates a simple, data-based comparison of your “current state” case packing/sealing/palletizing operation to that same operation with ShurSEAL installed.
It’s typically conducted over an 8-hour shift – 4 hours of your current state and 4 hours with ShurSEAL. Data is captured using our ShurFlo technology, monitoring tape usage/waste, tape application defects, machine downtime and manual labor, and then provided to you in an SSCI Report.
